What to expect from our Africa budget destinations blogs:
Africa is such a diverse and large continent and we have JUST started scratching the surface. Each corner of Africa ( home to 52 countries) offers a unique blend of cultures, landscapes, food, and language. Each time we’ve left one of these trips, we immediately come home looking to figure out how to return to see more!
The one thing I can gurarentee about a trip on the African continent is that it will be a memorable experience, possibly unlike something you have experienced before. Many people are inititally drawn to this continent for animal encounters. The amazing thing about animal experiences is that they are NEVER the same. Time passes differently when you are outside in such vast landscapes. It stands still and rushes past at the same time. You won’t know how enthralled you’ll be watching elephants feed each other for two hours until you see it for yourself.
African cities are also so vibrant. In Nairobi you’ll find glass sky scrapers next to one of the largest slums in the world. While meandering in Owino Market in Kampala, you’ll shop alongside 250,000 other people. In Cairo you’ll stand on rooftops that overlook the only left standing ancient wonder of the world. And that is just the beginning.

African Travel and the Tour Trap?
Do you notice how often guided tours are marketed towards American tourists for African countries? I’ve always gotten the sense that the marketing strategy is to advice Americans that the best way to travel through Africa is with someone holding your hand- and if you’re on this page I know you know that is not the case! Do organized tours have their purpose? Yes! Have we ever taken an organized tour! Yup. But we also know that one of the best ways to explore Africa budget destinations is to explore on your own.
While we did an organized safari tour for 10 days from Kenya to Tanzania, we also spent 5 weeks traveling through those countries independently. After gaining some confidence, we organized all of our own experiences in Uganda. We didn’t participate in any organized tours in Egypt. In fact, we made a concious effort to avoid tour groups at all cost by showing up to attractions well before the 9 am tour bus rush. We hope that with the help of our guides, you’ll see that you can do the same and that the best way to explore Africa budget destinations is to organize it on your own.
